San Francisco City Hall Wedding | A Romantic City Celebration

San Francisco is one of my favorite places for an intimate wedding because you can make an entire day out of it. You can get ready in a hotel overlooking the city, exchange private vows with the skyline behind you, ride a trolley through the street, have a San Francisco City Hall wedding, then celebrate with an incredible meal afterward.

That’s exactly the kind of experience Laura and Terry created for their San Francisco City Hall wedding.

Their June wedding brought together everything I love about photographing in the city: beautiful architecture, incredible views, a little bit of exploring, and a celebration that felt like so much more than just showing up for a ceremony. From their first look at the Four Seasons Embarcadero to their fourth-floor ceremony at City Hall and reception at Wayfare Tavern, every part of the day had its own moment.

And the best part? They got to actually enjoy it all.

Getting Ready at the Four Seasons Embarcadero

Laura and Terry started their wedding day at the Four Seasons Embarcadero, with incredible views of San Francisco right outside their windows. Getting ready in the city is such a fun way to begin an elopement or intimate wedding because you’re already surrounded by the atmosphere that makes San Francisco so special.

Once they were both ready, it was time for their first look. And yes, they both looked amazing!

A First Look and Private Vows Overlooking San Francisco

One of my favorite parts of their day happened before we ever made it to City Hall. Laura and Terry shared their first look and read their private vows on the walkway connecting the hotel’s two towers, with the San Francisco skyline behind them.

Laura had a vision for these photos, and seeing it come together was such a cool moment. The views were incredible, but what made it special was having that time together before the ceremony. They could slow down, take in the city, and share their vows without an audience.

This is one of the things I love about planning a San Francisco elopement. Your ceremony doesn’t have to be the only meaningful part of the day. You can build in private moments, explore the city, and create an experience that gives you so much more to remember.

A Trolley Ride to San Francisco City Hall

After their first look and private vows, we hopped on a trolley with their guests and headed to San Francisco City Hall. I mean, how fun is that? Instead of simply driving from one location to the next, the transportation became part of the celebration.

The trolley ride brought everyone together and added a little extra San Francisco character to the day before the ceremony.

Their Fourth-Floor City Hall Wedding Ceremony

Laura and Terry were married on the fourth floor of San Francisco City Hall, surrounded by their closest people. The building is absolutely gorgeous, with its grand architecture, beautiful light, and so many incredible spots for wedding photos.

After their ceremony, they shared their first dance inside City Hall. It was such a sweet way to celebrate being married before heading off to the reception.

We also made sure to take advantage of the building for portraits. From the fourth-floor galleries to the beautiful architectural details throughout City Hall, there are so many opportunities to create a variety of photos without needing to travel all over the city.

Wedding Portraits Around San Francisco City Hall

While their guests headed to the reception, Laura and Terry stayed behind with us for more portraits. This gave them time to enjoy being newlyweds and explore some of our favorite photo spots inside City Hall.

I love building this kind of breathing room into a wedding timeline. You don’t have to rush straight from the ceremony to the next thing. Having a little time together makes the experience more relaxed and gives us the opportunity to create photos without feeling like we’re racing the clock.

Once we finished, the trolley came back to pick us up, and we headed to Wayfare Tavern to celebrate with everyone.

An Intimate Wedding Reception at Wayfare Tavern

Laura and Terry were greeted by their guests at Wayfare Tavern, where the celebration continued with toasts, drinks, lunch, and cake cutting.

This is such a great example of how a San Francisco City Hall wedding can become a full wedding-day experience. You can have the beautiful ceremony, spend time exploring the city, and then gather with your favorite people for an incredible meal.

There’s no rule that says an intimate wedding has to be short or that the celebration has to end after the ceremony. Laura and Terry made the day their own, and it was so much fun getting to capture every part of it.

Cake Cutting at Wayfare Tavern

After lunch and toasts, Laura and Terry cut their wedding cake surrounded by their guests. It was such a sweet way to wrap up the celebration and enjoy a little more time with everyone before the day came to an end.

I love that their San Francisco City Hall wedding included all of these little moments. The private vows, trolley ride, ceremony, first dance, lunch, and cake cutting all came together to create a full wedding-day experience, without needing a huge traditional wedding.
