Emerald Bay Wedding Permit Guide

Emerald Bay is one of the most iconic places to get married in Lake Tahoe. With stunning views of the lake, dramatic cliffs, and peaceful pine trees all around, it is no surprise so many couples want to elope here. If this spot is calling your name, you will need an Emerald Bay wedding permit to make it official.

This area is part of Emerald Bay State Park and falls under California State Parks rules. Weddings are allowed, but only with a permit and it is important to plan ahead.

How to Get an Emerald Bay Wedding Permit

Reach out to California State Parks
The Sierra District Office handles wedding permits for Emerald Bay. You will need to contact them to check available dates and request a permit application. They do limit how many events happen at one time, so early planning is key.

Pick an approved ceremony spot
Only certain areas of Emerald Bay are available for ceremonies. The overlook is the most popular, but it is also a public space with regular visitor traffic. Other small areas within the park may offer more privacy. Keep your guest count low since large gatherings are not allowed.

Submit the application and pay the fee
Once you have your spot and date, you will fill out the application and pay the required fee. This typically is around $600. Once approved, you will get your Emerald Bay wedding permit in writing with all rules included.

Follow park guidelines
No chairs, arches, or amplified music are allowed. But a mini cake, a champagne toast, and a quiet ceremony with epic views? Totally allowed with a little creativity.
