I am always thrilled at the opportunity to plan and photograph adventure elopements in Lake Tahoe, Yosemite and all over Northern California. We are a husband and wife team offering adventure elopements for couples! We always have such a blast.
So on your elopement day, what kind of shots can you expect from me? Here is an overview of a few shots I like to set up for. These are my favorite types of shots because they help tell the story of your adventure!
Moody Lantern Shot
Moody lantern shots are so gorgeous and are just that.. moody! My favorite type of shot and a favorite for couples too! I love light, I love bright colors, but sometimes its fun to pull all that color out and just focus on the couple. Take the light away, the color goes away, and its a soft, moody vibe. Most elopements take place during golden hour, so you can expect that I will recommend shooting during “blue hour” (after sunset) to pull out my lanterns and capture those moody lantern shots. Ending your adventure elopement photography with lantern shots is always a nice touch to the final gallery.
Landscape Artistic Shot
As with any gorgeous destination location, we have to incorporate the beautiful surroundings. When I set up shots, I like to think of ways that couples will be able to print huge photos for their wall. I always include shots, where the couple seems tiny, and the frame is mostly landscape like the photo above. This style of a shot is one you’ll be able to print large and then make a collage of smaller photos of the same scene around it!
The Water Shot
Depending on the season, my most popular type of shot (and photo sessions!) involve WATER. So many couples hire me because they know my focus is epic water shots! Also, I’m getting in with you, or I’m getting in to get that shot if you don’t want to! I love water shots, especially at sunset with that golden glow reflecting off the water. If you’re in for even more fun, I also photograph underwater, so getting couples underwater is always such a blast! So many couples get in the water for those romantic, sexy shots and to show their playfulness as a couple in their photos!
The Documentary Shot
This couple enjoyed a first dance as husband and wife overlooking Donner Lake after their ceremony. Moments like this are documentary, which means un-posed, unguided and completely raw moments. I thrive on documentary style photography, it is one of my main focuses! By looking at the above photo, you would think that I set the couple up for their shot, but actually I didn’t.. this was all them! This is why I always recommend doing a First Dance after your ceremony (doesn’t have to be after!), and with my guided prompts, I will capture the “documentary” or organic, raw moments.
“Look at the Camera” Shot
Everyone’s favorite, especially for the parents and grandparents, the CHEESY “look at the camera shot!” Fun stuff. I’ll be honest, I don’t do a lot of these types of shots only because my focus is candid moments mostly. But, I will always include this traditional pose into my mix of poses because even though its cheesy, you still have to have them! We’ll switch this pose up to not make it boring too. I’ll tell you to give me that best cheese smile, then switch it up to drama face, be “ticked off,” or your best “RBF,” and make sure to look hot while doing so! The couple above nailed it, and yes, we can always adventure in the big city too!
