Holly and Teddy’s intimate California wedding in Clearlake was one of those that just sticks with you.
It wasn’t a big, traditional wedding packed with expectations or a timeline that felt rushed from start to finish. It was laid-back, intentional, and completely centered around them.
The kind of day where you can actually breathe, be present, and just enjoy what’s happening.
These two were the best kind of energy—easygoing, full of laughs, and just genuinely fun to be around. Their day reflected that perfectly, with a western-inspired vibe set against the rolling hills of Northern California.
If you’re planning something more intimate—whether that’s a micro wedding or an elopement—you can start here
Intimate California Wedding: Getting Ready + The Quiet Moments
Their intimate California wedding unfolded on a private property in Clearlake, CA—peaceful, open, and surrounded by those earthy tones Northern California does so well.
The morning felt calm. No chaos, no pressure… just moments that actually mattered.
From the details to the in-between interactions, everything felt relaxed and real—the kind of start to a day that sets the tone for everything that follows.

A Ceremony in the Rain (And Fully Embracing It)
Right as they were getting ready for the ceremony, the rain started coming down. We even pushed it back a little, hoping it would let up… but it didn’t. Everyone was waiting it out under the tents, kind of in that in-between moment of are we doing this or not?
And then she looked at me and said—
“How would you feel about just going out in the rain and doing this?”
I didn’t even hesitate.
Of course!
And then it turned into—
“F*ck it, we’re just gonna do it. Whoever comes out with us, cool. If not… oh well.”
And honestly, that moment is still one of my favorites of all time.
Standing out there in the rain with them, watching them say their vows, completely present and unfazed by anything else going on, it’s something I’ll never forget.
The ceremony was short, emotional, and completely real.
Not perfect in the traditional sense, but perfect in the way it actually felt.

And Then… the Rainbow
After the rain passed, the sky completely shifted at the beginning of their reception.
A rainbow broke through the clouds, and I just knew we needed to move fast. I pulled them aside for a few quick portraits, and those ended up being some of the most unreal images from the entire day.
It was one of those moments you can’t plan… you just feel it happening.

First Dance + A Quiet Cake Cutting
Their first dance happened with muddy boots, big smiles, and that post-rain energy that just hits different.
Nothing overly structured, nothing forced—just them, fully in it.
Later, they snuck away for a quick cake cutting. No crowd, no pressure… just a quiet moment together that turned into laughing, cake-covered faces, and one of those memories that actually feels like them. It ended with cake all over their faces because these two couldn’t stop laughing and being themselves. It was simple, playful, and totally them—laid-back and full of love.

Golden Hour That Didn’t Miss
The light after the storm was unreal.
Soft, golden, and warm in a way that just wrapped around everything. They took their time, soaked it in, and we leaned into those slower, connected moments.
This is the part of the day that always matters most—when everything settles and it’s just the two of them.

What This Kind of Day Actually Feels Like
This wasn’t about putting on a production.
It was about being present, embracing whatever the day brought, and creating something that actually felt like them.
Whether you’re planning a micro wedding or leaning toward eloping, days like this are proof that it doesn’t have to be big to be meaningful.
If you’re starting to think about eloping instead, I put together a full guide on how to elope in California.
